Young people
We call young people (17-24) venturers. Venturers can apply to us directly, either working or fundraising to join an expedition. Some venturers join expeditions as part of a structured year out on a Year in Industry combo-placement. In the UK, Youth Agency partnership organisations such as Fairbridge, Foyer Federation, Groundwork, Prince's Trust, Tullochan Trust, Venture Scotland and Weston Spirit refer young people who will benefit from our expeditions. International agencies such as Weg Wijs in Holland also recommend participants, as well as Raleigh Bermuda and Bridging the Gap in Australia. We also take venturers from the host countries through host country participant programmes in Costa Rica & Nicaragua and Borneo.

Career breakers and retirement
Every year we take on up to 300 volunteer managers aged anywhere between 25 and 75, to help run expeditions either on the project site or at field base.

Schools
We regularly visit schools to talk to pupils about gap years, or exhibit at their careers and gap year fairs. As well as this, we also create tailor-made expeditions for schools who wish to take young people out to our host countries.

Membership organisations
Membership organisations such as Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Girlguiding UK, RSPB, Scouts and Young Deaf Children's Society refer young people onto our expeditions and we also create tailor-made expeditions for them.

Local authorities
Local authorities refer their young staff onto expeditions as part of their development. We also create tailor-made expeditions for groups of young people at risk and their youth workers.

Companies and professional organisations
There are many opportunities for companies and professional organisations, from corporate social responsibility expeditions and team building weeks to graduate selection weekends and tailor-made leadership development expeditions. We also offer secondment opportunities for staff development.
