Us and the environment

We realise our expeditions have an impact on local, regional and global environments and strive to manage our resource use so that it contributes to sustainable development.

Working hand in hand
The work we do with international, national and local non-governmental organisations such as WWF India, MESCOT in Sabah and government departments responsible for protected areas such as forest ministries has a direct impact on protecting bio-diversity and sustaining the environment.

Offsetting carbon emissions
Flights are integral to our expeditions, so we ensure the value of our work on projects offsets the carbon emissions of the travel. Every environmental project we run provides at least 2 years of labour to the conservation efforts. We also support the Children's Eternal Rainforest in Costa Rica, an innovative project to protect a primary rainforest.

Doing our homework
Over the past 20 years we've undertaken environmental research with the European Union, Natural History Museum and Royal Geographical Society to gain valuable information to help develop our management plan and support environments at risk.

Leaving only footprints, taking only photos
All our volunteers are trained on how to minimise their environmental footprint whilst on expedition. We also educate volunteers on the culture and development of the local communities. We do this through discussions and talks from local NGOs as well as staff on the ground.

In the workplace
We strive to increase awareness of good environmental practice with all our staff through training, communications and constantly appraising working methods and techniques. Facilities are available so staff can recycle and cycle to work. Our publications strategy is primarily electronic to minimise printing and paper use.
