Raleigh and your company
Did you know that Raleigh works in partnership with businesses and organisations? We deliver employee development and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes alongside our core expeditions. As someone who really understands the power of the Raleigh experience, you are best placed to understand how we can help your company. We would be interested in working with you to bring the Raleigh 'can do' experience to your workplace. Have a look at the following and contact us if you think we can help you or forward the information to someone you think needs it. Any profits made support our work with young people.
How we work with companies:
As you know Raleigh programmes inspire people, enabling them to drive their performance through improved leadership, teamwork and by increasing their ability to manage in an unpredictable, rapidly changing environment. If that sounds like the world your business or organisation operates in and skills that you need, then Raleigh can help you.
Since 1984 Raleigh has paved the way in using real, sustainable projects as vehicles for personal and professional development, both in the UK and overseas. Real projects carry real risks and are of real consequence. Participants engage physically, intellectually and emotionally because they know the projects we source fit into the bigger picture of long-term sustainability. They know their efforts will make a very real difference. This level of engagement embeds learning through experience at an extraordinarily deep level, focussing on personal, team and corporate values.
Our values of drive, courage, integrity and discovery are core to our activities and the Raleigh experience develops key leadership competencies including:
- building and maintaining relationships
- communication & influencing skills
- personal effectiveness
- planning & decision-making
- team focus
- innovation and creativity
- wider global perspective.
In 2007 Dr Simon Beames, University of Edinburgh evaluated the impact of our expedition in Costa Rica. They surveyed participants before and after their experience and found a significant improvement in:
- Mental resilience to succeed
- Confidence in dealing with people from different cultures and countries
- Self awareness
- Preparedness to influence group situations
- Ability to plan and lead group projects
Using high impact, innovative and engaging programmes, we offer organisations opportunities to improve employee recruitment, development and retention combined with a powerful corporate social responsibility (CSR) message.
1. Secondments or sabbaticals on core expedition programmes
Our 5 to 13 week core expeditions to Malaysian Borneo, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and India run throughout the year and facilitate personal and professional development. Many employers encourage their staff to join our expeditions through learning and development or sabbatical schemes. Employees return to their organisations with increased skills and belief in their own abilities and their organisation's values. Our expeditions are a hugely beneficial way to assist an employee's personal development and can be used as a recruitment tool particularly in the highly competitive graduate market.

Employers who actively encourage their employees to work in partnership with a charity are becoming increasingly popular, this is highlighted as a key factor in surveys of the best employers. Raleigh offers employees real volunteering opportunities both in the UK and internationally, working on sustainable community and environmental projects. Whether as an opportunity for individuals or teams Raleigh CSR programmes provide inspiring opportunities to live your values.
For example, Capgemini has an excellent relationship with Raleigh formed over many years through Capgemini employees taking part in Raleigh projects, both in the UK and longer projects overseas. This not only demonstrates their corporate social responsibility, but provides Capgemini with teambuilding and positive media coverage.
'As always, great energy, motivation and fun!'

3. Learning and development programmes
Raleigh Development Consultancy (RDC) is the commercial training and business development arm of Raleigh, providing tailored life-changing, challenging experiences that build self-belief. RDC presents people with unusual and demanding challenges so they can develop under-used skills and talents and perform better when they return to work.
Our consultants are accomplished individuals with global experience in a broad range of disciplines, from commercial industries to the military. They are highly skilled at helping participants learn from their experiences, turning that into tangible actions at work.
Leadership programmes - our consultants use their extensive knowledge of your business and culture to bring the best out of the participants. We have designed bespoke leadership programmes for major organisations and blue chip clients including the Ministry of Defence, and Aviva.
Cross cultural management - with increasing globalisation and diversity in the workplace, cross cultural management is a growing issue which has major impact upon business performance. Our programmes can help develop a collaborative team culture, producing real results and adding value to your business.
'The Raleigh International Leadership Challenge offers a unique development opportunity to our leaders of the future. With the right support and challenge in the workplace, this intense form of leadership development can be harnessed and converted into exceptional performance. The international flavour of the programmes gives the additional benefits of improving global working and capitalising on synergies across national and international boundaries in a way that would not otherwise be possible.'

4. Fundraising and sponsorship activities
As a charity we actively encourage everyone who gets involved with Raleigh to participate in fundraising to keep the spirit of Raleigh alive. With this in mind, we have a portfolio of fundraising and volunteering activities both in the UK and overseas, from competing in the Kinabalu Adventure Challenge in or taking part in an event organised by Raleigh alumni in the UK. You can also support the work we do simply by giving a donation.
There are also a number of events and publications available for sponsorship in 2009, our 25th anniversary year. Our key sponsorship opportunities are core expeditions, including opening up new countries, and specific environmental and community projects as well as special events such as a reception at the House of Lords in February 2009.
