Working hand in hand
We are very pleased to be working with the following project partners in India: The Ministry of Environment and Forests, Karnataka forestry department, WWF, MYKAPS, CTRD Trust and Kalypso Adventures.
WWF India, Karnataka forestry department and the Ministry of Environment and Forests
Through WWF India; the largest organisation engaged in wildlife and nature conservation in India, we've been introduced to the Ministry of Environment and Forests to undertake targeted communities in the forests of the Nilgiri Biosphere reserve. Habitat conservation is the main agenda for environmentalists in India. Through undertaking a programme of education and prevention of human wildlife conflict our project focus on maintaining and improving elephant trenches and fencing to reduce the number of harmful encounters between forest communities and elephants and preventing loss of life for both species. Project Elephant is a government sponsored scheme which focuses mainly on threats to elephants and the issues surrounding these threats, the prominent ones being poaching, assisting the Karnataka forestry department in its ant-poaching patrols, infrastructure projects enhances the patrolling capacity of forest rangers.
MYRADA
MYRADA is a non Governmental Organisation managing rural development programmes in 3 States of South India and providing on-going support, including deputations of staff to programmes in 6 other States. On our core expeditions we'll be working alongside MYKAPS on a broad variety of community projects including sustainable agricultural livelihood projects through the National Agricultural Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) a Government sponsored programme and in villages; developing horticulture plantations by planting cash crops of mango and amla fruit creating contour bunding to retain monsoon rains; creating agricultural water storage tanks and constructing eco-sanitation and vermi-composting units.
Centre for Tribal and Rural Development Trust (CTRD Trust)
The Centre for Tribal and Rural Development is a non-governmental organisation working in the area of Pandalur and Gudalur taluks since 1988, for the development of the tribal communities of the Nilgiri district. The organisation plays a significant role in the development of infrastructure, economic, educational, political and income generation activities of the Kurumba, Paniya and Kattunayakan tribal people those who are inhabiting in the Pandalur and Gudalur taluks of the Nilgiri district.
The organisation runs seven-day schools in tribal areas, involving health care of the indigenous people, providing seedlings (Tea), conducting leadership training to the indigenous people and women's empowerment training. It is the only non-governmental organisation which helps the tribal populations of Gudalur and Pandalur taluks, in fulfilling their basic needs.
Kalypso Adventures
Raleigh has been working in partnership with Kalypso Adventures since October 2007. Kalypso assist Raleigh in planning and delivering the adventure projects in the Western Ghats; all of which have been highly successful, challenging, safe and exciting projects.
