Explore Costa Rica & Nicaragua
We first started running expeditions to Costa Rica and Nicaragua in 2001. Our only expedition with projects in two countries has proved very popular and between 2001-2007 1,571 venturers and 594 volunteer managers took part in 15 different expeditions.
Why? We offer a unique combination of challenges and opportunities for volunteers to experience some of the western hemispheres poorest communities, richest, bio diverse environments and tough, life-changing adventures.
Since we arrived our volunteers have undertaken 145 projects at 95 different sites across Costa Rica & Nicaragua and this number's increasing all the time. Take a look to see how we've been making a much needed difference there.
Helping communities
Communties in Nicaragua have a severe lack of infrastructure such as schools and housing. In Costa Rica we've worked with project partners in indigenous communities to improve health and educational services. Our community projects include 23 water projects giving clean water to thousands of Costa Ricans and Nicaraguans, 14 schools, 10 community centres, 2 hostels for children to attend secondary school, a bridge and health post.
Environmentally friendly
Since our time in Costa Rica & Nicaragua we've established relationships with several environment projects, building 3 ranger stations, 900 metres of artificial reef, various view points, wildlife observation towers and 35.1km of trails in Costa Rica's National Parks. .
Lifelong adventures
Venturers have clocked up a combined 413,850 kilometres trekking over the mountainous terrain, beaches, jungles and volcanoes of Costa Rica & Nicaragua. This is the equivalent of going around the world 10 times!
Please be aware that as our projects change, these are only meant as a guideline for what you can expect. Also, Nicaragua is not included on the 4 or 5 week expedition and might not be included on the 7 week expeditions, depending on your project choice.
