Help us build 14 homes in India this April
This April, can you rise to the challenge and help us to build 14 homes in India?Globalgiving is a new way for people across the world to give to projects around the world. Throughout April 2009 Raleigh is taking part in Globalgiving's Project Challenge to raise a total of £1,000 from at least 50 unique donors - that's just £20 a person. If we can raise that total in just 30 days we will gain a permanent place on their website and get the chance to open up a whole network of new supporters for Raleigh's projects in Borneo, Costa Rica & Nicaragua and India.
Our first project is in the mountainous Nilgiri district, Tamil Nadu, India with the Kattunayakan and Paniyan people, Tribal Groups whose ancestors have inhabited the same forests for thousands of years. Raleigh will help to build new homes for 14 families to considerably improve their health and safety. Current primitive bamboo and grass dwellings lead to damp and cold living conditions badly affecting the health of the men, women and children living in the hamlet. Added to this, the termites that eat the materials attract venomous snakes which can be fatal and dwellings are at risk of burning down when cooking inside. Raleigh volunteers will work with the tribe to construct mud brick houses improving their standard of living, providing healthier living conditions, preventing fatal accidents and preventing long term poor health.
The total cost to support these families is £15,499. If we can raise £1,000 of this in April alone, we will have the chance to secure the remainder of the funds from people across the world reaching people we have never been able to do before.
Please support Raleigh in this new venture by visiting our project page on the Globalgiving website before April 30th 2009 where making a donation is easy and simple. With your help we will be able to get support from across the globe for Raleigh's vital community and environmental projects which you know from your own experience make a real difference.
Thank you for your support
