Raleigh's record Challenge Workshop!
Raleigh's record Challenge Workshop! On the weekend of 25-26 April, in the Broadstone Warren Scout Centre in East Sussex, Raleigh held a Challenge Workshop for the Costa Rica & Nicaragua and India expeditions departing this July. Because it was a combined workshop, we had a total of 100 young people and volunteers, which is surely a new attendance record!
The Challenge Workshops are held for every expedition, between 5 and 8 weeks before departure, and are a great opportunity for the young people to meet each other, find more information about the projects they'll be working on and details about all that happens when they arrive on the expedition. There are also sessions on what kit to bring and any medical issues that the young people need to be aware of.
Luckily, the weather was kind to the participants, and it stayed dry throughout the weekend. Nevertheless, everyone got a chance of getting thoroughly wet during the water crossing exercise. On the Saturday night the whole group cooked under the stars and slept in the shelters they had previously built. The groups then spent the evening getting to know each other better and playing games around the campfire.
The Challenge Workshops are run by the Training and Delivery Team and Support Team with the help of a lot of Raleigh Alumni, without whose help these couldn't happen. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact samantha.delahaye@raleigh.org.uk
