India is the place to see a tiger on a gap year

Catching a glimpse of a tiger in the wild is no easy feat, but for those heading to India on their gap year the chances have just been increased slightly.

The Sariska National Park in the north of the Raleigh expedition country has added a new male tiger, enhancing its reputation as one of the best places in the country to see the impressive animal.

Spotting a tiger in India is on many a gap year traveller's wish list along with seeing the other wildlife on offer such as elephants, sloth bears and other big cats.

Forestry bodies and the government are working to try and protect the species but poaching does still exist meaning the tiger is on the critically-endangered list and tourists generally head to the big national parks to try and spot one.

There are big hopes for Sariska's latest addition as he will become part of a new breeding programme, having been genetically matched to ensure he will be able to breed with resident females.
