Why volunteer in Borneo?
Raleigh International runs expeditions in Borneo, Malaysia. Our expeditions are a mix of community and environmental projects mixed with a challenging adventure. We operate from Sabah – in the north of Borneo. Many people in Sabah are living below the poverty line. By volunteering in Borneo you could be living and working among rural communities. You will be volunteering on projects to improve health and educational services, helping to make a genuine difference.
- Sabah has the highest rate of poverty throughout Malaysia.
- 21% of Sabah children have never attended school - the highest rate throughout Malaysia
- Many rural communities do not have access to clean, reliable water
- Borneo rainforests are the oldest in the world and home to some of the rarest and most diverse ranges of species
