A third of people in Britain would consider taking a gap year to volunteer in their own communities, a new survey has shown.

Researchers from poll takers ICM found 34% of people said they may consider doing unpaid work near their homes, while a quarter (26%) said they would think about going abroad to volunteer in a poor community.

Recruiters are urging graduates to take up voluntary work instead of post-graduate studies if full-time employment is hard to find, according to a report by the Association of Graduate Recruiters.
