Selection Process

Throughout the application process you will need to demonstrate an understanding of Raleigh as an organisation and its expeditions, how you will benefit from a Raleigh expedition, personal challenges you have faced and your fundraising ideas.

Stage 1: Your eligibility for the Raleigh Graduate Bursary Award will be assessed

Stage 2: Your application will be screened according to the above criteria

Stage 3: If you meet the essential and financial criteria, and successfully demonstrate an understanding of the above criteria at application stage, you will be shortlisted and invited to a phone interview which will last 20 - 30 minutes.

The phone interview is designed to give you an opportunity to discuss the answers in your application form and tell us about how you intend to raise the £1000 fundraising target plus the money for flights, kit and vaccinations. You will also be able to ask us further questions about Raleigh's expeditions and about Raleigh as an organisation.

Stage 4: If you are successful at phone interview, you will then be offered the Raleigh Graduate Bursary Award.

Stage 5: If you are offered the Raleigh Graduate Bursary Award you will need to pay a £200 non-refundable deposit within 2 weeks of the offer. The deposit will confirm your place on expedition and will count towards your £1000 fundraising target. You will also need to return a completed medical form signed by a GP, and you must ensure you have all of the required vaccinations before heading off on expedition.

Raleigh was founded on four challenges: the challenge to be selected, the challenge to fundraise, the challenge to go on expedition and the challenge to give something back on your return. There are many ways to remain involved with Raleigh on your return - we call this the 4th challenge - and we will ask you on your application form which options you are interested in. Our alumni section will give you details of the different roles and activities available.
