The New Raleigh Volunteer Manager Award

Raleigh announces the development of a new qualification for volunteer managers in partnership with Birkbeck, University of London.

The Postgraduate Certificate in International Field Leadership (IFL) is a newly designed qualification tailored around the unique and challenging work-based learning experience the Raleigh expedition offers to its volunteer managers. The award opportunity highlights the depth of the personal and professional development opportunity the Raleigh/ Birkbeck learning methodology offers.

This Raleigh and Birkbeck collaboration is a powerful partnership between organisations who are leaders in overseas expedition-based training on the one hand, and a world class research and teaching Higher Education institution on the other.

It should be of interest to individuals, employers, recruiters, sector skills councils and professional bodies who are looking for accredited leadership development opportunities that develop transferable skills through reflective practice within the themes of leadership, intercultural, and development learning. The certificate also offers progression routes to relevant Diploma and Masters programmes.

The award is being piloted in Summer 2010 and will be available to Raleigh volunteer managers for the Autumn 2010, 8-13 week expeditions. Past Raleigh volunteer managers may also be able to use their prior expedition experiential learning to sign up for retrospective study. Please click here to:

The Raleigh team is also developing other relevant awards/qualifications for its schools expeditions and for the young people who participate on its general expedition programmes.
