When can I go?

Whether you're taking a career break or sabbatical from work, seeking new career opportunities or enjoying retirement, our range of overseas expeditions are run throughout the year to suit your plans. Volunteer managers can join an expedition for 8 or 13 weeks.

Volunteer managers are on the same expeditions as venturers. You will receive full training in-country, so you will need to commit to an additional 2-3 weeks more than venturers, making the total expedition length 8 or 13 weeks.

*Please note 8 week expeditions may or may not include Nicaragua depending on project choice. When an 8 week expedition is run alongside a 13 week expedition, volunteer managers from both expeditions will attend the same Development weekend.

10 week expedition structure

The 10 week expedition consists of an induction period followed by three phases. Each phase is approximately 3 weeks in length. Venturers experience a different project type per phase - one community, one environmental and one adventure project. As a volunteer manager you might work on one project for three phases, or you might rotate around different projects. Fieldbase volunteers will split their time between fieldbase and visiting project sites. This varies depending on the projects taking place on each expedition, so flexibility is a must.

5 week expedition structure

The 5 week expedition consists of a unique combination of a 3 week community or environmental project followed by an intense, adrenalin-fuelled 6 day adventure challenge; both are completed by all venturers and project based volunteer managers.
