It's a jungle out there
We first went to the island of Borneo (Malaysian state of Sabah) in 1987 and since 2003 have run over 20 expeditions to Sabah, North Borneo. Sabah's an area rich in culture and natural resources, boasting some of the world's oldest rainforests and over 23 ethnic groups.

We get volunteers out there experiencing diverse ethnic communities, preserving and conserving natural environments and undertaking challenging, life-changing adventures.

During our time in Sabah, Raleigh volunteers have been playing a leading role in making a much needed difference there. Take a look for yourself.

Helping communities
Spread across Sabah our community projects include 6 kindergartens, 3 libraries and 7 gravity water feed systems. We've achieved these through sponsorship, local communities and fundraising schemes. Recently we've completed a long-running project at Batu Puteh, establishing a cutting edge eco camp and facilities.

Environmentally friendly
We have long-established relationships with environmental projects in Danum Valley and Imbak Canyon. At Imbak Canyon we built most of the infrastructure, including buildings and trail development. At Danum Valley teams have built satellite camps for scientists, improved the trail network and built a hanging suspension bridge.

Lifelong adventures
Teams continue to enjoy 3 week adventures trekking across some of Sabah's most rugged terrain, with the chance to complete the PADI Open Water diving qualification, or Advanced Divers qualification (not available on 5 week expeditions). Depending on the length of the expedition, venturers can put their diving skills to use with conservation work in the Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park.

Please be aware that as our projects change, these are only meant as a guideline for what you can expect.
