Working hand in hand
We are very pleased to be working with the following project partners in Borneo: PACOS Trust, KOPEL, Sabah State Library, Sabah Forestry Department, Yayasan Sabah, The Royal Society and The Marine Research Foundation.

PACOS Trust
PACOS Trust (Partnership for Community Organisations) is a community- based voluntary organisation aimed to help raise the quality of life of indigenous communities. We've been working with PACOS for many years. PACOS identifies a community need and we raise funding from corporate sponsorship, our volunteers then construct what is needed.

KOPEL
KOPEL (The Batu Puteh Community Ecotourism Co-operative ) was set up to promote and sustain the area of Lower Kinabatangan. For a millennia the indigenous "Sungai" people have been living off the rainforest for food, medicine, household commodities and products of trade. But with the advent of mechanised extraction, many local people were forced into depending on timber. MESCOT (Model of Ecologically Sustainable Community Tourism) was established to create an alternative income, whilst protecting the rainforest and traditional indigenous cultural heritage. We've been working with the community since 2002 to continue this aim.

Sabah State Library
We've worked with the Sabah State Library on a number of occasions to build libraries for remote communities. We usually cover the cost of the building; Sabah State Library then identifies a suitable community, then stocks and manages the library once completed.

Sabah Forestry Department
The Sabah Forestry Department builds confidence and trust with marginal communities on the edge of forestry reserves by conducting a number of assistance programmes to provide basic infrastructure. The forestry department provides the funds and we carry out the work.

Yayasan Sabah
Yayasan Sabah (Sabah Foundation) was established by the government to sustainably use the land areas allocated to them for the benefit of all Sabahas. Although much of the land is under logging concession, they are conserving large areas allocated to them, including Imbak Canyon and Danum Valley.

The Royal Society
The Royal Society has a dual role as the UK's academy of Science, acting nationally and internationally. The South East Asia Rainforest Research Programme (SEARRP) is funded by the society enabling British scientists to make a contribution to rainforest ecology, conservation and management. We work alongside scientists and rangers in Danum Valley.

The Marine Research Foundation
The Marine Research Foundation (MRF) is a non-profit research foundation based in Sabah. Established to further the understanding of marine ecosystems and the diverse flora and fauna in Southeast Asia and other Indo-Pacific sites. We started working with MRF in 2007 and hope to build on this relationship with small community based projects.
