What are the roles?
Volunteer managers can choose from project based or field based roles. For both we look for grounded skills and experience, but equally an enthusiastic, positive attitude. We then build upon these skills by providing full training that will compliment your own knowledge and experience.
Project based
You'll lead a project either for the duration of the expedition or several different projects throughout. In charge of a team of volunteers in a managerial, decision-making and problem-solving role, you'll be responsible for completing the project and the venturers learning and development. For these roles we need adaptable people, able to cope with stressful situations in a calm, logical manner.
Roles include:
Adventure project manager, adventure challenge events manager (8 week expeditions only), construction project manager, interpreter (Spanish), medic, project manager
Field based
The 'field base' is the organisational hub where up to 10 volunteer managers support the smooth running of the programme alongside the country director and country programme manager. Day to day tasks vary from communicating with project sites to manning the radios. You'll need a dynamic and flexible approach to problem-solving and be able to work on your own and as part of a team. Although field based you'll get to visit project sites and in some cases work there and even take part in the adventure project!
Roles include:
Administrator, artist, driver (Costa Rica & Nicaragua expeditions only), deputy programme manager, finance manager, communications officer, logistics manager, logistics co-ordinator, photographer, team coach
What role you choose really depends on what you're looking to get out of the expedition. With this in mind there may be more than one role you'd like to apply for. We'd advise you to apply for both and after we've received your application we'll invite you to an assessment weekend to assess your suitability.
