For every school or group expedition Raleigh provides a dedicated account manager and support co-ordinator to ensure seamless support and delivery.
Account manager
The account manager will meet with the school and establish their requirements. Once a programme has been agreed they will deliver a launch event to teachers, pupils and parents after which the students will have the opportunity to sign up for the expedition via an on-line application form. They will be the main point of contact for the school throughout the project and will be on hand to answer inquires and support the school throughout. The account manager will also be able to put you in touch with other teachers who have embarked upon organising a Raleigh expedition for their school, if you feel this would be beneficial. Some have been several times with us now and therefore have learnt, through experience, the best way of co-ordinating various elements of the process.
Support co-ordinator
Once minimum numbers have applied and the expedition has been confirmed, a support co-ordinator will be assigned to support the school. Their role includes sending out welcome packs to all the participants, sending out instructions and information for the pre-expedition weekend and helping the school with the required administrative documentation and offer guidance on fundraising, flights, vaccinations and kit.
Fundraising and educational workshop
Raleigh will provide a 2 hour work shop which will enhance participants understanding about the impact their community project will have on the local communities and how it relates to the Millennium Development Goals. In addition, the workshop will include some advice about fundraising, encourage individuals to be creative in their fundraising activities and facilitate them with developing an action for a specific fundraising idea.
Pre-expedition weekend
This weekend is designed to fully prepare the participants and accompanying school staff for their adventure ahead. The main outputs for the weekend include learning the necessary outdoor skills, hearing the latest expedition country and project information, briefing on medical issues and health and hygiene, cross cultural awareness training and making sure participants are well advised on the kit they require.
Support co-ordinator
Our support co-ordinators have all joined head office after joining and completing a Raleigh expedition. They have first-hand experience of what life is like living in a rural community and adapting to different cultures. They will be happy to answer any of your questions or alleviate any concerns or worries you may have. One of the main concerns is often around fundraising and again as our support co-ordinators have been through their own fundraising journeys, they have an abundance of information and exciting and challenging ideas that they can share with you.

Pre-expedition weekend
The purpose of the pre-expedition weekend is to get you excited about the expedition and to prepare you both physically and mentally for the challenge ahead. The main outputs for the weekend include learning the necessary outdoor skills, hearing the latest expedition country and project information, briefing on medical issues and health and hygiene, cross cultural awareness training and making sure participants are well advised on the kit they require.
In-country training
Every participant undertakes a basic health and safety programme once they arrive in country which includes safety briefings, risk assessments, casualty evacuation, health and safety, remote living training, team building and the correct and safe use of tools, camping equipment and safety equipment, including radios.
Account manager
The account manager is the main point of contact for the school throughout the project and will be on hand to answer inquiries and support the school and parents throughout. If you have any general enquiries about the school expedition please contact the account manager and they will be able to answer your questions.
Operations manager
If you have any questions or concerns around the logistics and health and safety aspects of the school expedition please contact our Operations Manager who will be able to answer your queries.
Raleigh expedition leaders
In addition to the accompanying school staff, every school expedition has a minimum of two Raleigh expedition leaders (project managers). These are highly experienced individuals who have led on previous Raleigh expeditions and are familiar with the country that the school is planning to visit. Also, as per the school's request, we ensure that one of our project managers is a medic (nurse or doctor with at least 2 years post qualification experience).
