The Kinabalu Challenge, Borneo

Ready for your next adventure?

2013 dates to be confirmed

If you have dreamed of taking part in an extreme Raleigh experience, then The Kinabalu Challenge is for you. It only needs one week away from work and in this time you will helicopter into the jungle then hike, bike and raft through spectacular Borneo rainforest before climbing 4100 metres to the top of Mount Kinabalu in the ultimate team adventure race.

"The challenge was just incredible, a lot more demanding than I expected but a hugely rewarding experience - like nothing I've ever done before but also exactly what I'd always wanted to do. It really pushed me to challenge myself physically and to experience living in the real wilderness of the Borneo jungle was just fantastic! I'd wholeheartedly recommend it. - Dan Cunningham

Dan took part in the Kinabalu Challenge, January 2010 with the Capgemini team and together they raised more than £10,000 for Raleigh International.

As a five day fundraising event, The Kinabalu Challenge brings together up to 15 teams from around the world to test their individual endurance and team working skills against each other and the elements.

Enter as a team or an individual and raise vital funds to support the work of Raleigh International. As a charity, we raise funds to make our expeditions the best possible experience for the volunteers and the local communities. In this role, we act as a catalyst for change, bringing local communities together, sometimes for the first time as one team and giving them the resources and motivation to achieve sustainable development.

Entrants are required to raise a minimum of £2,950 of which Raleigh International will receive at least £1550. The top fundraiser will have the chance to visit a Raleigh project in Borneo and see firsthand the difference their support has made.

JWT

JWT London, the global advertising agency, has participated in the Kinabalu challenge for many years, raising in the region of £100,000 for Raleigh International over the last decade. The challenge gives JWT employee's an opportunity to support a fantastic cause whilst challenging themselves mentally and physically. The team's consist of four individuals and they are required to fundraise a group total of £10,000 for a team place in the challenge. This task takes them outside of their comfort zone and really helps to develop their teamwork, time management, creative thinking, planning and communications. The challenge itself then helps develop these skills further as they are taken further from their comfort zones and pushed to the limits.

JWT don't tend to have the fastest teams in the world but they certainly always bring lots of laughs and some great characters. Bronwen, Angus, Panos and Hussain represented JWT in the November 2010 challenge and said:

"JWT have taken part in the Kinabalu Challenge for the past ten years. Even given the difficult economic times, the company understands that it is a worth-while investment. Taking part in the challenge was one of the best things any of us have ever done - from the fundraising efforts to the challenge itself, it raised our profiles within the agency, pushed us beyond our boundaries and taught us what proper team work is. We would do it again in a heartbeat."
